ABOUT

Mandaic script

The 22-letter Mandaic alphabet is thought to have evolved from either a cursive form of Aramaic (as did Syriac) or from the Parthian chancery script. Wikipedia puts that date as some time between the second and seventh century AD, while others point out that coins with Mandaic letters go back to the second or first century BC. Mandaic was developed by members of the Mandaean faith of southern Mesopotamia to write the Mandaic language for liturgical purposes. It is written from right to left in horizontal lines, and is cursive in nature.
