The Belair font series

Francois Belair is one of the brightest students the School of Computer Science at McGill University has ever had. In 1996, he wrote a little piece of software for capturing points when one would write with a magnetic pen on a sketch pad. I in turn wrote a PostScript program for making these captured data into a stroked type 3 font (which should be of use to UNIX/Linux people, but not to the Mac and PC crowds). Sadly, Francois left the font world to become a robotics expert and was part of the McGill robotics team that won two championships. Enjoy.

Heverlee This is very close to my formal printing, as I would use it on official documents such as tax returns and passport applications. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file | ZIP file |
HeverleeOSF Old style figures. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file | ZIP file |
Heverlee-Bold The Bold version. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file | ZIP file |
Heverlee-Plume I simulated a thick-nibbed pen in the stroke. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file | ZIP file |
Heverlee8pt This 8pt version, when shown at 8pt with main text at 12pt will give letters of equal pen-thickness. This way, it looks as if all letters were written with the same pen. You might call it an optical correction of sorts in texts where two type sizes are needed. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file | ZIP file |
Heverlee12pt This is the 12pt version for use in the main text. Of course, you can use it at any point size, as long as the ratio 12/8 is maintained with the previous font. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file | ZIP file |
Heverlee-Bold12pt Bold version of the previous font. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file | ZIP file |
Heverlee-SmallCaps12pt And finally a Small Caps version. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file | ZIP file |

Sarowiwa Ken Sarowiwa was a wonderful man who was brutally murdered by the Nigerian government. This font is in his honor. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Sarowiwa-Normal | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Sarowiwa-Plume The special nib version of Sarowiwa. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |

Stok Stok is a straightforward hand-printed font. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Stok-Plume Stok-Plume is the turned-nib version of Stok. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Stok-OSF Stok-OSF is Stok with old style figures. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Stok-SmallCaps Stok-SmallCaps is the small caps version. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Stok-Thin Stok-Thin has very thin strokes. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |

Fanie Fanie is the handwriting of Francois' sister. We toyed with the weights of the strokes. In particular, we were looking for the best combination of stroke thickness, nib selection, and kerning. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Fanie-Maigre Ultra thin strokes. Hard to emulate except in a stroked type 3 font. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Fanie-Plume Special wide nib. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Fanie-Gros Compare with the previous nib. We turned it a bit. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Fanie-GrosCompact And we made the font more compact. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Fanie-Erection Fanie-Erection has thin strokes but the turned nib is still visible. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Fanie-Bon Fanie-Bon is the standard weight. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Fanie-Delicat Fanie-Delicat is my favorirte weight and nib selection. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
Fanie-Heavy Fanie-Heavy is the heaviest we could use. The "e" has now closed, and the letters start losing their identity. | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |

Viandra This curly font was a test for thin-stroked glyphs. At what pixel accuracy can you still distinguish the spirals? | PFA file | AFM file | TFM file |
