Article 53338 of comp.fonts: From: ath@nala.devnet.lejonet.se (Anders Thulin) Newsgroups: comp.fonts Subject: Re: Chess A diagram font or a figurine font, like the one used by Informator? Here are some possibilities: Adobe Systems Inc: Cheq (Adobe font pack 171) Linotype Game Pi Chess (part of Adobe font pack 240) Both diagram fonts. Cheq does not include lettered borders, Linotype Game Pi has only one large border, which makes it somewhat less useful. An early version of Cheq was posted to comp.sources.misc (volume 7) -- it appears to be freely distributable. But ... it does not use the same code table as the commercial version. (Hint: If you have Type on Call, don't buy the entire pack 240, unless you need the domino, cards, dice, etc...) Agfa: They have a very weird chess font in GamesSports01 (I think it is called). I can't make much sense of it, I'm afraid. Knights and bishops look the other way, no straight borders, but the corner pieces seem to be there, etc. Alpine Electronics: Linares, Linares Diagram Zurich, ... Hastings, ... Bother diagram fonts and figurine fonts. Only chess font maker who supports fairy chess pieces (rotated), I think. Alpine Electronics (email: smiths@aca.nwc.whecn.edu) 526 West 7th Street Powell, WY 82435 They also have fonts for other board games: othello, draughts, go, ... Chessworks Unlimited: Tilburg Also both diagram and figurine fonts Chessworks Unlimited (http://www.chessworks.com/) Many chess fonts are bundled with or sold as separate offerings to chess databases: ISDiagram with ChessAssistant, Habsburg (and five other fonts) with ChessBase, PROChess with CC-Publisher (not available anymore?) -- some of these are available as free demos. http://www.users.dircon.co.uk/~amscott/home.htm contains some useful pointers to various freeware and commercial offerings. -- Anders Thulin Anders.Thulin@lejonet.se 013 - 23 55 32 Telia Engineering AB, Teknikringen 2B, S-583 30 Linkoping, Sweden
