Rewriting history
[August 23, 2019] The internet is our best friend and worst enemy. It is quite clear now that it is important to maintain a true unbiased record of history. The facts, please. This is what my site has attempted to do---describe the state of type design, and take a snapshot. Yet, many dozens of type designers have asked me over the years to alter the historic record. Some merely do not want me to show old work of which they are no longer proud, even though it adorned the hallways of the internet for some time. Others do not want us to even mention that they ever made a certain typeface. But I know what I saw. I have seen the designer's name inside the typeface. I can imagine that one day in the future, someone may be looking for exactly that typeface. But there is no trace left. The blood has been wiped from the scene of the crime. Well, no more---if you are looking for a typeface, and suspect that someone asked me to abet in their disappearance act [which, as a good chicken, I normally do], please email me and I will help out---privately. I wish that confident governments would start supporting efforts to create historically accurate snapshots. |
