Nicolete Gray British type historian (b. 1911, Stevenage, d. 1997). Author of Nineteenth Century Ornamented Typefaces (University of California Press, Berkeley, CA, 1938, revised in 1976), Lettering as Drawing, Lettering on Buildings (1960) and A History of lettering (Phaidon, 1986). Articles in journals include Un handicap pour les enfants (Communication et langages, no 40, 1978), Towards a new handwriting adapted to the ballpoint pen (Visible Language xiii, 44), Slab-serif type design in England 1815-1845 (Journal of the Printing Historical Society, no. 15, 1980/81).
