In 2002, Jared Benson and Joseph Pemberton formed PUNCHCUT in Emeryville, CA, where they "design, operate and produce Typophile, a collaborative, online typographic community."

In 2012, they published the free sans typeface Amble at Fontsquirrel. Pemberton writes: In 2010 Sun licensed it for inclusion in the JavaFX SDK for mobile handsets. Any similarity to Droid stems from a similar creative brief over at Ascender Corp.
