Jan Hus Jan Hus (1370-1415) introduced the principle of a diacritic (in his case, a dot above some letters) in his "Orthographia Bohemia" (1406-1412). This work became the basis for modern Czech typography. Hus was burnt at the stake in Konstanz, but not because of his typographic convictions.
