Y&Y's utility to "make font files (PFB) usable with PS interpreters that have bugs and with ATM versions that have bugs. The bugs it deals with relate to the Type 1 command called SEAC (Standard Encoding Accented Character). Some PS interpreters (such as older Adobe PS interpreters) require that the base and accent not only exust in the font (which make sense) but that they are actually in the encoding (which does not). Some recent fonts avoid seac altogether."
