Tatar is in the Turkish family of languages and is spoken in the Republic of Tatarstan, in a number of districts in Bashkortostan, Mari El, Udmurtia, Mordovia, in most regions of Russia and in a few districts of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaidzhan, Kirgizia, Tadzhikistan and Turkmenistan.
