ABOUT

SimSun

Chinese truetype font by Founder in Beijing. It is a Unicode-encoded GBK font that comes with Microsoft Windows/Office 2000/XP, and is compatible with Unicode-compliant applications in OS 9 and above. Chinese Mac reports on these extensions of SimSun: "SimSun-18030 comes with Microsoft's GB 18030 Support Package for Windows 2000 (or XP) at http://www.microsoft.com/china/windows2000/downloads/18030.asp. To get the font, you have to install the package on a Windows 2000 or XP system. Then you can copy the font to your OS X Library/Fonts folder and use it in Unicode-compliant applications like TextEdit. It works beautifully with Unicode Hex Input, giving you full access to the more than 27,000 Chinese characters in Unicode 3.0 on Mac OS 9 and above. An edition of SimSun containing the full set of around 65,000 Chinese characters in Unicode 3.1, called SimSun (Founder Extended) [filename: SURSONG.TTF], is included with the Microsoft Office XP Proofing Tools CD (Version 2002). It also comes with Chinese editions of Office XP. This font can be used with Unicode Hex Input in Mac OS X 10.1 and above."
