ABOUT

Old Italic

The script of some ancient (8th to 1st centuries BC) dialects of Central Italy, which are a subdivision of the western group of Indo-European languages spoken in Italy. These dialects included Etruscan, Faliscan, Middle Adriatic, North Picene, Oscan, South Picene, and Umbrian. The Old Italic script dialects show some similarity to Celtic and, to a lesser degree, Germanic. The Germanic runic alphabet was derived from one of these alphabets by the 2nd century AD.
