Dutch type designer. Jan Middendorp wrote A.R.K. Ten Years of Type Related Projects 1994-2004 (2004), summarizing Knip's work at Atelier René Knip, mostly experiments in type design. Knip (b. 1963) is a graduate from the St. Joost Academy in Breda. Since the 1990s, Knip has operated a design studio in Amsterdam, Atelier René Knip. Recently, Knip and his brother Edgar formed a new company, Gebroeders Knip, which produces furniture and accessories in which letterforms are integral parts of the objects design. One of his experiments, a unicase typeface with an Arab feel, was digitized by Nick Curtis as Turban Hey NF (2008). In October 2012, Knip and Hahn cofounded Arktype. |
