Marian Bantjes

Bowen Island, BC-based very talented graphic artist, who specializes in custom type and ornaments. With W. Ross Mills at Tiro, she designed Restraint (2007), an ornamental typeface, announced here and here (a bit of simulated Indic). Restraint won an award at TDC2 2008. She designed these titling caps for Thirstype's Playground. Quoting designers from a TDC jury page, Stefan Sagmeister says she is one of the most innovative typographers working today, Noreen Morioka calls her the Doyald Young of her generation, and Sigrid Albert says [she creates] spiritual typography which goes beyond religion. Check out her Love Letters, calligraphic pieces drawn by her in 2008. She teaches typography through Emily Carr Institute in Vancouver, BC. Speaker at ATypI 2010 in Dublin.
