Philosopher, typophile and type designer, who obtained a PhD in the history and philosophy of science from the London School of Economics in 1970. He lives in Reston, VA. Berkson designed Williams Caslon Text (2010) for Font Bureau in 2010, to better capture the readability, friendliness, and authority of Caslon for modern presses and readers. This font was used as a basis for William Caslon Small in September 2013 as a bespoke text typeface for The New Yorker, to replace Sabon. Author of Fields of Force (Routledge), Learning from Error (Open Court) and the Becoming a Mentsh workshops (Mentsh.com) and the forthcoming Avot: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Life. Berkson led a panel at Typecon '05 (NYC) on subway type, and gave a talk about his work reviving Caslon at Typecon '06 (Boston). He was also a speaker at TypeCon 2009 in Atlanta. Home page. |
