ABOUT

Gothic Japanese typefaces

The Japanese "gothic" typefaces (gosshiku) are equivalent to the Latin sans-serif typefaces. Typically, strokes have a uniform width and do not have any decorations. There are two main categories, the standard gothic and the maru (= round) gothic, which is a style in which the ends of the lines are rounded off. Maru gothic is the typeface used in Japanese road signs.
