James Bonaventure Hepburn

Scottish scholar (1573-1620) who in 1616 in Roma published The Virga Aurea---Seventy-two magical and other related alphabets. The Virga Aurea was published as a large engraving. The engraving consists of a listing in four columns of the 72 alphabets, which include various Latin and Greek alphabets, as well as Hebrew, Arabic, Etruscan, Assyrian, Armenian, Gothic, Scythian, Scottish, Hibernian, Coptic and Chaldaic.
