Akira Uchida (Hitachi, Ltd. and TypeBank Co, Ltd) developed a very useful free full Latin/Kanji/unicode "didone style" font called XANO-mincho-U32 (2003). Opentype included. A thing of beauty. Direct download. He also made another full (free) didone-style unicode font, Kandata (2004). Here you can download his Tsuitiku-Kana family from 2004 until 2005.
