ABOUT

Sang Mun

Graduate of RISD, 2012, who worked at the Walker Art Center in New York. Seoul, Korea-based designer and art director. Creator of the Latin text typeface Lancet Wounded (2012) and of the grunge experimental typeface ZXX (2012, free). Social commentary: As a reaction to government surveillance, the ZXX typeface is embedded with disruptive designs that are meant to combat optical character recognition processes. The four options for online communications camouflage [called XED, Noise, False, and Camo] each have characteristics that keep them legible to humans, but baffling to machines. Sang Mun: The project started with a genuine question: How can we conceal our fundamental thoughts from artificial intelligences and those who deploy them?
