Typefounder. Designer of Copperplate Gothic (5 styles now exist at Bitstream). He ran the Chicago-based foundry Marder, Luse and Company, which existed from 1863-1892, and which was also called Scofield, Marder, Toepfer&Co., Scofield, Marder&Co., and the Chicago Type Foundry.
