Albrecht Dürer Born and died in Nuremberg, Germany, 1471-1528. Painter, wood carver and copper engraver extraordinaire, famous for many great geometrical and structured capitals and proportioned designs, carried out with compass and ruler. Example from 1524. Another example, ca. 1500. Best known for the books on the geometry of letters, Unterweysung der Messung [A Course on the Art of Measurement] [or: Of the Just Shaping of Letters], published in 1525.
