Newari alphabet
Simon Ager's page on Newari. "The Newari or Ranjana alphabet is one of the many alphabets derived from the Brahmi alphabet, and has existed since at least 953 AD. Newari, a member of the Tibeto-Burman group of Sino-Tibetan languages is spoken in Nepal and India by about 775,000 people. The Newari alphabet has been used to write Buddhist and Hindu texts in both Newari and Sanskrit. Tibetans use the Newari alphabet, which they call Lanydza, to write the Sanskrit titles of books that have been translated from Sanskrit to Tibetan. They also use the alphabet for decorative purposes." |
