ABOUT

Rare Book School

Located at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, the Rare Book School offers some type courses. For example, in July 2002, James Mosley (retired librarian of the St Bride Printing Library in London, and founding editor of the Journal of the Printing Historical Society) taught a course on "Type, lettering, and calligraphy, 1450-1830". He will repeat this in 2003. In June 2002, Archie Provan (Professor of Typography at the RIT School of Printing Management and Sciences, and co-author of A Primer of Typeface Identification (1976) and 100 Type Histories (1983)) taught a course entitled "Introduction to the history of typography". In 2003, Stanley Nelson taught about the history of typography from 1450 until the present.
