LUC DEVROYE

ABOUT

John Kimball Rogers

Designer (1821-1888) of Menu Roman and Skinner. According to McGrew, Menu Roman is the BB&S rename, for the 1925 specimen book, of Skinner, which was shown by Inland Type Foundry about 1885, and ascribed to John K. Rogers as well as to Nicholas J. Werner. Menu Title, formerly Lining Menu, was Inland's Bruce Title, by Werner. Menu Shaded was Acme, designed in 1886 or earlier. The latter has only a very general relationship to the other typefaces which are nearly monotone, with long serifs tapering to sharp points. Compare Paragon.
