Richard N. McArthur
Typographer, designer and printer, who worked mainly at BB&S (1882-1956). For a long time, he was the advertising manager at BB&S in Chicago. In that capacity, he designed Old Dutch (1925, BB&S), about which McGrew writes: It is a font of shaded capitals, decorated with a circle set into each main stroke, and is probably derived from eighteenth-century sources. It was recast by ATF in 1954. Colonial is similar, but with conventional serifs. Also compare Dresden. He is also credited by McGrew with Ratdolt Italic (1948, BB&S), which matches Ratdolt and Goudy Lanston. |
