Czech poster artist and graphic designer, 1924-2003. Postage stamp engraver. He did the design work, including the typography, for the subway system in Prague. MyFonts writes about Metron: Metron by Jiri Rathousky is so far the most ambitious typeface made to order in the Czech Republic. Despite the fact that for a number of years it has not been used for the purpose for which it was designed, every inhabitant of Prague is still well aware of its typical features. Metron was commissioned by the Transport Company of the Capital City of Prague in 1970 to be used in the information system of the Prague Metro. The typeface was replaced in 1986 by Helvetica, something that clearly puzzled Storm. In 2003, Rathousky contacted Storm to digitize Metron, but he died that same year. Metron was digitized by Frantisek Storm and Marek Pistora (Storm Foundry) in 2004. |
