Karel Svolinsky

Type designer, book illustrator, painter and graphic designer, b. 1896, Heiligenberg bei Olmütz, d. 1986, Prague. Graduate of the Hochschule für Kunsthandwerk in Prague. Later he taught at this school.

In 1925, he created Svolinsky Antiqua which was used in K.H. Macha's book May. One size was cast by the Prague printing house Prumyslova Tiskarna. This high-contrast display typeface borrows ideas from the didones. Wenceslas Script was published in 1933 by Monotype. Finally, the also made an unpublished Grotesk in 1943.
