August Will (b. Weimar, Germany, 1834, d. 1910) immigrated to the New York City/New Jersey area when he was a young man. His full name was John M. August Will. Will settled in Jersey City, NJ, where he remained until his death. He designed the outline ornamental caps typeface Crossroads (1891). For a digital version, see Crossroads (Solotype) and Marcel Caps (2007, Character). In 1881, he patented a fireworks-themed typeface, and another typeface with ornaments. In 1880, he patented another font with Chinese ornaments. |
