ABOUT

IIID [Erik Spiekermann]

The International Institute for Information Design (IIID) was founded to develop research and practice in optimizing information and information systems for knowledge transfer in everyday life, business, education and science. It is located in Austria, and its current director is Peter Simlinger. In 2010, Erik Spiekermann and IIID published a new official type family for Austrian traffic signs, called Tern (for Trans- European Road Network). It contains both standard sans stryles and pixel versions for screens. The styles are called TernVMSonefour, TernVMStwozero, TernVMStwofour, TernVMSthreeone, Tern Regular, Tern Narrow, and Tern Italic. Tern can be purchased by the general public. Study (PDF).
