Emil Preetorius
German stage designer (b. 1872, Mainz, d. 1973). Preetorius studied law and art history in Giessen. In 1909 he cofounded a school of illustration and the book trade in München together with Paul Renner. In 1928 Preetorius became a professor at the München Hochschule für Bildende Künste. He set stages for Richard Wagner and others. From 1953 to 1968 Emil Preetorius was the president of the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste in München. |
